Handsworth hosted the 2nd M S Society Golf day on Monday 14th June which raised a fantastic £6,300.

In 2008 Ivan, his family & friends raised over £10,000 to provide his sister with an electric wheelchair – as she is wheelchair bound and badly effected by MS. This has made Ivan committed to continue to raise money for MS, as she and others (including Ivan) have many ongoing needs. It is also hoped that they will eventually find a cure. Following on from 2008, last year he organised a Golf Day for the MS Society which raised just over £5,000.
This year a second Golf Day was held on Monday 14th June at Handsworth Golf Club. Ivan managed to persuade, badger, cajole 25 teams of 4 to attend.

As with last year everyone was encouraged to wear orange and black which are the MS colours, I think Ivan went a bit to far – don’t you !

Everyone agreed that the course was in fantastic condition and a stiff breeze kept scoring under controll.

That said some teams did extreamly well and the final results were as follows:

Barquing Mad 105

GN Solutions 94

Brucy and his Boys ! 93

Blackstar 92

Senior Tour Bandits 92

The yellow ball competition was won with 37 piont by G N Solutions.

With at least 4 teams recording 92 pionts – Handsworth proffessional Lee Bashford had some serious checking to do, Brucy and the boys (including 2 ex Handsworth Captains and the Kings Norton Captain) had an extra piont added as they could not get the score right, good job Brucy does a better job with his one liners.

Team pictures below.

Interviewed after Ivan made the following comments “Many thanks to everyone for taking time out of their busy lives to attend the MS Golf day on Monday.

The day was a tremendous success due to the amazing support we had from all those that attended. In all, 100 people took part in the golf day and we were fortunate that whilst not a hot June day it did not rain.

Overall we raised in excess of £6,300 for the charity. This will be split and sent to the local MS society and also to Bristol University where stem cell research is being undertaken in the hope it will provide a cure for MS.

Once again, thanks to all that took part, the hole sponsors, the companies and golf clubs that donated prizes.

Two special thank you’s to Phil, Bev and their staff for providing such excellent food throughout the day and to Lee Bashford for sponsoring the yellow ball competitions and checking the card.
We will be running the event next year – if you know anybody else who will enter a team we can cope with another 5.”

To add a bit of fun to the draw night the members dressed -up as the Blues Brothers. The men in full suits glass and hats.

The test gets a bit more tricky when the snappers ask the boys to point with their left hands and remove their hats with the right.

The ladies joined in the fun dress in black and white.

After the initial photos most people enjoyed an excellent meal produced by Phil.

After which Andy Tomlinson’s number came up in the Hnadsworth Draw, he increased his popularity as he was not present, and the draw was rolled over again to £475. The next draw will be held on Friday 26th June, to win it all the member has to do is be in the clubhouse when the draw is made (around 9-00).

After this our very own “Brucey” Thompson took on 3 more victims (contestants) in Play Your Cards Right.

Brucy hands over a much sort after consolation pen to Vice President Arthur Taylor – whats more surprising is that Lady P finds one of his line funny !

The night went on as Mrs Thommpson presented the award for best dressed lady to Jill.

It was then the turn of the men and Ray Bunn came out victor in a close contest.

Following that everyone danced the night away to a Motown Disco.

Everyone really enjoyed the night and a massive thanks must go to Brucy Thompson for his excellent organisation again.
